Why AI assistants don't mention your brand yet

If ChatGPT or Perplexity skips your brand, the cause is usually fixable. Here are the common reasons assistants leave you out, and what to check first.

You know your product is strong, yet when you ask an assistant for the best option in your category your name does not come up. This is common, and the reasons are usually practical rather than mysterious. Here is where to look.

The crawler cannot read you

Assistants learn from sites their crawlers can reach. If your robots.txt blocks the major AI crawlers, or your content only appears after heavy JavaScript, you may be invisible to the exact readers you need. This is the first thing to check, and often the fastest to fix.

Your answer is buried

Assistants extract from the top of a page. If the direct answer to a buyer's question sits three scrolls down under marketing copy, a model may never reach it. Pages that lead with the answer, in plain language, are far easier to quote. Our guide on how to get cited by AI walks through this.

You have thin authority

Being named often depends on more than your own site. Assistants lean on credible third-party mentions, reviews and citations to decide who is worth recommending. If almost nothing outside your domain talks about you, you are a weaker candidate for the shortlist.

You are being described wrongly

Sometimes the problem is not silence but error: the assistant names you and gets a key fact wrong. That is still a visibility issue, because a wrong description costs trust. Knowing what each assistant says about you is the starting point, which is exactly what an AI visibility audit is for.

None of this is guesswork once you measure it. A free scan shows which of these blockers apply to you, labelled by how sure we are, so you fix the real cause instead of the assumed one.
